Grant County SWCD works alongside local, state, and federal conservation partners to connect our community with the knowledge, resources, and technical assistance needed to care for our natural resources. The professionals below serve Grant County landowners, farmers, and community members by providing expertise, education, and support for conservation practices and programs. We invite you to get to know these valuable members of our local conservation team and the resources they provide.

Sara Day

Resource Specialist – Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA)

Sara is a Resource Specialist with the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA). She covers Huntington, Wabash, Miami, and Grant counties, where she provides technical assistance to various conservation partners. She graduated from Purdue University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Agronomy and studied the effects of cover crops and no-till on soil health properties throughout Indiana.

Sara worked in conservation agriculture for over 10 years before beginning her career with ISDA. She has a passion for working with farmers and landowners to reach the land’s maximum potential while preserving our natural resources.

Sara lives in Uniondale, Indiana, with her husband and two daughters. They enjoy being outdoors, camping, and off-road racing around the country.

Garett Watson

Resilient Indiana Technician

Garett Watson is from Fairmount, Indiana, and currently resides in Grant County. He holds a degree in Sustainable Food and Farming Systems from Purdue University and has experience working as a farm manager and agronomist.

In his role with Resilient Indiana, Garett provides technical assistance to Soil and Water Conservation Districts throughout the area. He is passionate about agroforestry and soil biology. East Central Indiana is his home, and he is excited to help conserve its natural resource base.

Cassandra Vondran

District Conservationist – USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

Cassandra Vondran works for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as the District Conservationist (DC) in Grant County, Indiana. She leads NRCS conservation delivery by serving as the primary technical contact for landowners and partner agencies.

Cassandra provides technical assistance, manages local conservation workloads, and ensures program compliance for the Grant County USDA Service Center. She has worked in the soil conservation field since 1995 in various locations throughout the state of Indiana.

Outside of work, Cassandra enjoys spending time with her family.
